Add extra bounce, and beauty to your next project with the Bobble Stitch! This quick and easy stitch will turn your next creation into a crochet masterpiece!
Inspiration…..
Bobble stitch is by far, my favorite graphgan stitch; I love the way it can add depth and texture to a project. It’s also a fantastic way to create lettering and other designs in single colors by alternating bobble with other stitches such as I did with the lettering on my Thomas the Train Graphgan.
Check out these quick and easy steps to get started on your bobble stitch masterpiece…..
Step 1:
The Bobble stitch is worked in sets of two SC. For this practice swatch, I suggest chaining 27; 26 stitches for 13 bobbles, plus 1 which will be your turning chain.
Step 2:
Single crochet in the second chain from your hook to begin your foundational row. Single Crochet in the remain 25 stitches (26 stitches total).
Step 3:
Turn your project and chain three to start your first bobble stitch.
Step 4:
Yarn over (yo) your hook and, hook into the first SC, pull up a loop (you should have 3 loops on your hook now). Yarn over again and pull through two loops only, leaving two loops on your hook.
Step 5:
Repeat Step 3 into the same stitch until you have a total of 6 loops on the hook. Once you have 6 loops left on your hook, you will yarn over and pull through all 6 loops as pictured below.
Step 6:
You will anchor your bobble with one SC into the next stitch; which will give your bobble stitch its ‘puffed’ shape.
Step 7:
Repeat steps 4 through 6 until you reach the end of the row and chain 1 to anchor the last bobble stitch. NOTE: Bobble stitch rows do tend to curl, but will straighten out as you build up your rows.
Step 8:
Turn your project and SC into the top of your Bobble Stitch, followed by another SC into the previous row anchor SC. Continue to SC in the top of the remain stitches (26 Stitches total), to lay the foundation for your next row of bobble stitches.
Step 9:
Alternate between rows of bobbles stitch, and rows of SC until you feel comfortable with the new stitch.
NOTE:
Bobbles stitches can be worked in single crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, or longer stitches depending on preference for your chosen project!
I adore the bobble stitch; some of my favorite graphgan projects were made with this versatile stitch. Still not convinced it’s the right stitch for you? Check out my Pick Your Project board on Pinterest to see some beautiful bobble stitch inspired projects. Happy Hooking!
