Inspiration……
November is a month when many are called to reflect on the blessings in their life; it’s also a kick off to the season of giving. I have been blessed with many things, including my amazing husband, two crazy boys and many wonderful friends and family. I also incredibly thankful for the blessing crochet has been in my life. It’s my creative outlet and my coping skill when life is overwhelming. It brings me happiness, and I have seen first hand the power crochet has to bring happiness to others. So in the spirit of giving thanks and giving back; I want to spotlight a few of the incredible causes that allow crocheters of all levels to help spread happiness and warmth through his amazing craft!
Crochet Causes:
The Magic Yarn Project:
The Magic Yarn Project makes and donated creative crochet wigs to children all around the world that are battling cancers. Their wigs are creative, spark the imagination and have a unique ability to bring a smile to the face of children who are fighting in the world of cancer. Thier website contains patterns, tutorials and visitors can also donate yarn, funds or patterns to the cause.
Feel Better Friends:
Feel Better Friends sends handmade dolls crafted by volunteers and donated to children battling cancer and other illnesses. Their organization includes a Facebook training group where volunteers can access their patterns and learn how to craft ‘Feel Better Friends’ to send to children around the world.
Knitted Knockers:
Knitted Knockers are free handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. In contrast, Knitted Knockers are soft, comfortable and mimic the shape and feel of a real breast. Their organization offered free knit and crochet patterns to those wishing to help.
The Snuggles Projects:
The Snuggles Project accepts crochet donations for animals living in shelters; giving comfort to animals and helping to create a more ‘homey’ environment to the receiving animal shelter.
Warm Up America:
Warm Up America donates handmade afghan to people in need; including homeless shelters, women’s shelters, and natural disaster relief organizations like the Red Cross. Their organization distributes warm afghans, caps and other items to tens of thousands of people a day, thanks to the generosity of knitters and crocheters around the country.
Operation Gratitude:
Operation Gratitude sends care packages to troops deployed overseas; including handmade hats and scarves. No specific pattern is required; donated items are added to care packages shipped around the world help to help show support to troops deployed all around the world.
Looking for more Crochet Charities? I did a post earlier this year featuring crochet causes that help premature babies. There are also some great resources online through the Crochet Guild of America, and The Crochet Crowd to help you find non-profit organizations seeking crochet donations. I would also recommend looking locally; within your own community, you can find many charitable causes that will allow you to make a difference through the sharing of this wonderful craft. Have another favorite crochet cause you want to share? Leave me a comment below and don’t forget to check back as we get ready to dive into a Pixel Perfect Christmas CAL next week!
DISCLAIMER: I am not affiliated with any of the above charities. These listings are for informational purposes only and represent only a small number of all current crochet causes seeking donated items.
