Want to make your next crochet Afghan ‘super snuggly’? Looking to add a unique twist to your latest crochet afghan? Check out this quick and easy crochet fleece lining tutorial to add warmth for your next project!
Inspiration….
Both of my boys love to ‘snuggle’, so I was disappointed when my first graphgan turned out too stiff. This quick and easy lining added plenty of warmth and softness, making the finished blanket bedtime ‘must have’.
MATERIALS:
- Fleece
- Scissors
- Crochet Hook
COMPLETION TIME:
Varies depending on the size of the project; my Thomas The Train project is approximately 41 in X 45 in and took an hour to complete.
Crochet Fleece Lining Directions:
- Purchase fleece lining in the color or pattern of your choice. Make sure your fleece is larger in dimension than your finished Afghan. I chose to add 8 inches to both the length and width because I wanted ~3-inch fringe on all sides. TIP: It’s better to overestimate for this step; in case you need to trim or clean up some of the edges.
- Lay the fleece out on a smooth surface and overlay your completed Afghan, leaving the desired amount of fleece on all four sides.
- Next, you will need to cut a square out of each corner and cut the remaining fleece into strips of your preferred width.
- Pull the fleece strip through the end of your row.
- There are two different ways to you can tie off the ends. I tied each strip individually by pulling the fringe only partially through the row and then pulling the tail through the loop; similar to tying off the end of a crochet project.
- As an alternative, you can also pull every other strip through the front of alternating rows and tie the two strips together.
Both methods are shown side by side below. (The frayed ends pictured were trim remnants used for this example, you need trim these off for your actual project as described above.)
After tying off all of your strips, your new crochet lining is complete. My completed lining has proven to be very durable, is holding up well to frequent wash and wear and promises to be a snuggle favorite for years to come!
